Citroen C3 Key Fob Troubleshooting
Key fobs from Citroen can malfunction due to a variety of reasons. The most common reasons are worn buttons that are not in contact with the battery, water damage and receiver module problems. Make sure the batteries are 12 volts.
If the key fob can not unlock your car, you may be experiencing deprogramming. This happens when certain button combinations send a message to the onboard computer, asking that the key be removed from its list of keys.
Dead coin battery
If the fob that you use to open the door on your Citroen C3 is no longer working, first determine if the battery has died. Fobs have small, coin-shaped batteries that can be replaced within a few minutes. You can find these at home improvement stores, as well as some auto parts stores. Make sure you buy the correct model, however. Fobs typically require CR2025 or CR2032 however, you must check the owner's manual to determine the exact type of battery that your car requires.
Take off the button pad and then use cotton swabs or alcohol to clean it. This will help to remove corrosion and clean the contacts, which are typically colored gold. After the contacts have been cleaned, you can insert the new battery. Be careful not to mix the two batteries because they have different voltages and diameters.
Next, you will need to test the voltage of the battery. A multimeter that is calibrated to the battery's voltage range will give you an accurate reading. If the battery shows a voltage that is higher or lower than its threshold, it needs to be replaced. You can also try getting your car started using a spare key, however this might not be successful in all instances. If the issue persists go to a CITROEN dealer with your V5 registration form and personal identifi cation documents. A CITROEN Dealer can retrieve the code for your vehicle's immobiliser, and then order the replacement battery.
Water damage
When the key fob gets underwater it may lose its signal to the car. It's best to remove it as soon as possible out of the pool or puddle. Once you have done that dry the circuit board as best you can with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner. If the key fob isn't working, it may be time to purchase an entirely new one.
The Keylab is a different reason for Citroen remote control not working. This could happen if there is an electrical field close to the car or other transmitters that operate on the same frequency. The key fob should start to work again once you are out of the area of interference.
The Citroen C3 key fob could stop working because of worn buttons problems with signal interference, receiver module issues as well as a dead 12-volt battery or a defective chip. You'll need it reprogrammed if this happens. This can be done by a qualified mechanic, or a Citroen dealer. If the issue is significant the vehicle will need to be it replaced. It's a simple and inexpensive fix. But you must take action quickly. The longer you put off fixing the issue, the worse it becomes. If the issue isn't resolved it could pose a danger for you and your passengers.
Receiver module issue
If your key fob ceases working, it might be because the receiver module has developed a fault. This could be due to a number of things such as water damage. This could happen if you drop your keys, or wash them. You can repair the issue by removing the chip and cleaning it with isopropyl and electronic cleaner. This will keep the chip from becoming corroded.

You can also try to reset the receiver module by disconnecting it from the car battery and then waiting for 10 seconds. Then reconnect the battery to the car and repeat the procedure. If this doesn't solve the issue, go to a dealer to have it replaced.
Interference can cause your key to stop working. It could be caused by other transmitters that operate on the same frequency or objects inside your vehicle. If you are unable to fix the issue, you can bring your key fob to a dealer to be replaced.
The key fob contains a short-range radio transmitter/radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip and antenna, which sends a distinct coded signal to the receiver module in your car. If the signal is not correct the receiver won't recognize the car key and display a message that reads "key not recognized". This could be a very frustrating issue, particularly when trying to start your car.
Dead 12 volt battery
It is possible that your key fob has been damaged if it ceases to function after the change of batteries. This is particularly true in the event that the key fob was dropped or stepped on, however it also can occur after maintenance on your vehicle which requires the removal and reinstallation of the panels. Wires are exposed when these panels are removed. If your fob is damaged, you might have to replace it completely.
Another possibility is that the fob receives interference from other devices or locations. This can make RF signals weaker and hinder the car from being able to recognize the remote. If this happens it is possible to reset all on-board computers by disconnection of the battery that is 12 volts for around 15 minutes. This will erase any remaining power, allowing the system to restart.
Before replacing the battery, it is important to ensure that it's the right size and type. If the battery you replace is too small or has different voltage, it could harm the circuit board within the fob's key. It is also recommended to clean any corrosive material from the chip in the fob prior to installing a new battery. The correct type of battery can ensure that the key fob is properly sealed and shielded from moisture. Once the key fob is been reinstalled, it will function normally. In the majority of cases, you can use the second key to start your car when it displays the message "key not found." You may need to press the button a few times before it responds.
